What Happened to Get Us Here?

When we launched GroupTrack 2.0 in October, we made the decision to release a second Chrome Extension alongside what was then the production version. This gave us a path to fall back to 1.0 if we needed to.

Since going live with 2.0, we have been experiencing excruciatingly long approval times for the new Chrome Extension, upwards of a week for even the most minor of changes. This has seriously hamstrung our ability to be reactive to user-reported issues as we worked out the kinks in the new software, leading to a great deal of frustration on all sides.

The thought recently occurred to us that maybe we should try deploying the latest version of the extension to the same Chrome Web Store listing as our original extension, overwriting that with everything in 2.0.

We did this on the evening of 12/18, and by the morning of 12/19 the update was already approved and live.

THIS IS HUGE!!! While we can't guarantee that every update will be this fast, it does bode well for our ability to become "nimble" again on the extension front.

Our hunch is that the fact that the old extension listing has been around for close to 5 years, is a "Featured Extension" in the Web Store, and has a high user and review count are all working together to prioritize us in the approval queue at Google HQ.

What Do I Need To Do?

In order for the GroupTrack Web App to communicate with the Chrome Extension, you need to have the correct version installed. In the following steps, we'll walk you through uninstalling the 2.0 extension and installing (or re-installing) the "old" extension listing (which is now also the new 2.0 code!).

    • You will be prompted to confirm that the extension will have access to certain social media website URLs.
  3. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the installation.

Step 3: Set Up GroupTrack 2.0

  1. After installation, you will need to log in to your GroupTrack CRM account.
  2. Ensure that the GroupTrack 2.0 extension is active by pinning it to your browser’s extensions toolbar:
    • Click the puzzle piece icon and then click the "pin" icon next to GroupTrack CRM 2.0.

  3. Begin using GroupTrack 2.0 with your social media accounts to take advantage of the new features and improvements.

Why This Process is Important

Migrating to GroupTrack 2.0 ensures that you have access to the latest features, performance improvements, and ongoing support. This upgrade is essential for maximizing your efficiency and staying up to date with the latest tools in GroupTrack CRM.

All future updates will be deployed only to this new extension, with a version number of 3.9.x or 4.0.x. You will need this extension to ensure compatibility with the web app and to get the latest changes moving forward.

Thank you!
